Bridging the Gap Between IR and IT:

In order to create effective institutional reports, communication between report users and developers can be just as important as tools and technical knowledge. IData has worked with many institutions on developing custom reports, and Brian Parish will discuss some best practices and tools to facilitate successful report definition. Some topics include:

• Creating a common definition of reporting terms.


• How to create a complete report specification.


• Examples of how communication commonly breaks down.


• Tools and communication strategies.

Mobile Access for Banner

The Mobile Access for Banner session explores the feasibility, demand, and potential for mobile broadband connectivity with higher education administrative systems. Through a collaborative project between the University of Mary Washington and IData, Incorporated, a suite of custom Self Service Banner (SSB) forms were created to provide access to select Banner functionality via web-enabled cell phones or other mobile devices. The session will cover the methodology used to build and publish the forms along with an analysis of the demand and potential for a mobile web interface with student information systems.
